Impact of COVID-19: Canada’s Continuous Human Rights Violations Against Indigenous Women and Girls

Canada has consistently failed to remedy the human rights violations committed against Indigenous women and their communities which is exacerbated by COVID-19, and forces them into precarious situations – both on and off reserve – increasing their risks of infections and death from the virus and increasing their vulnerability to violence.

The Chair in Indigenous Governance at Ryerson University, and The Canadian Feminist Alliance for International Action (FAFIA), have submitted a report to the UN Special Rapporteur on the rights of Indigenous Peoples, Jose Francisco Cali Tzay, outlining the key impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on Indigenous women and girls in Canada.
