Today, Sharon McIvor announced that Canada has asked the United Nations Human Rights Committee to suspend consideration of her petition before the Committee on the grounds that Canada is consulting on the elimination of sex discrimination from the Indian Act.

The Canadian Feminist Alliance for International Action and the Native Women’s Association of Canada stand in solidarity with Sharon McIvor and her call for the Government of Canada to abandon this position and immediately act to eliminate all sex discrimination from the Indian Act.
